The region of Galicia has a complicated history, being under Austro-Hungarian rule for much of it's time but with the collapse of said empire who rightfully owned it? The region itself was mainly populated by Poles and Ukrainians, each of which had their own allegiances. The Ukranians declared the Western Ukranian Republic which was not taken kindly by the poles. As the aggitation grew diplomacy between the newly reinstated Ukranian People's Republic and Western Ukranian Republic continued eventually resulting in their unification. The new Polish Republic was not happy at all with this mobilizing troops for an invasion of Galicia.Â
