The Ukrainian War of independence was not an isolated conflict, it was a set of conflicts which in it of itself was another set of conflicts. The Ukrainian War of independence was part of the Russian Revolution where after several hundred years of defeats and stagnation the Russian people revolted in the hopes to overthrow the current regime. Behind the revolution there were several different faces and groups all with different visions of Russia.
As the National Government collapsed, local leaders rose up with their own unique visions which is how the Ukrainian War of Independence started. The Ukrainian ethnic group was highly oppressed throughout the Tsarist regime so with the collapse of authority the Ukranian People's Republic was created on June 24, 1917, and the struggle for Freedom began.
